AASJ7: Sharon's Pages in Pam's "Haiku" Journal

Here are my pages in Pam's "Haiku" Journal!

 

 

I have to say I was a little apprehensive about this "theme" as I really wasn't sure about writing a Haiku but I had some brand new stamps from a US Design Team I am on and the idea popped into my head and the "Haiku" verse just popped into my head to match the stamped/collage images I wanted to create LOL!

 

 

I used paper doll collage elements by Art Tea Life - you know by now this is my fav store - I always feel inspired and creative when I'm working with these elements along with the fab new rubber stamps by Blank Page Muse "Vintage Scents Perfume" set.

 

I started adding a layer of gesso to the page backgrounds and then added strips of scrap papers, tissue papers, book pages etc.

 

 

I added yellow, pink & white paint to the pages with a sponge.

 

 

I stamped one of the perfume bottles from the set over the lower half of the pages - then I added white gesso through a stencil to add some interest to the top and bottom of the pages.

 

 

I used little alphabet stamps to "write" the Haiku verse and added the wording and collage gals plus muslin cloth and diamantes to finish the page!

Sing me a Haiku- Pam.

 I really wanted to make a pretty page for Pam, so I moved away from my usual pallet and went for a baby blue background. 

In keeping with the Japanese feel of the Haiku theme, l went for trees in blossom, cherry blossom.

It took a while to hand cut the little pink leaves and stick them all down but I think it was worth it in the end. 

The little bird sings his Haiku to Pam with love. 

Where birds sing my dear, 

That is where you will find me, 

In peaceful moments.

Pam's HAIKU Journal

Hi there ladies,

I loved contributing to this project. Around 22 years ago I first learnt about Haiku poems, I really enjoy the simplicity of this type of poetic structure. At first I started off with something completely different to the outcome of the piece, I guess that's just the way process journey goes.

I started by laying down an opaque gesso, waited for it to dry, then adding an aquamarine and light mint on the right and left hand side of the journal pages. After it dried, I picked out a Jane Davenport stencil and used a thick black marker to outline the details of the face, I drew the hair in. I wanted to try something different, so I ripped up some beautiful paper and began to paste all the pieces down with pva glue.

I added some matchmaker acrylic paint, it's a customizing skin colour blend, at first I finished with the above matchmaker mix, but in the following you will see that I added more brown for definition; well I tried haha.

So this is the mix I ended up with. I added four Haiku's, I liked them all very much but I didn't like the way I presented them, so as you'll see I totally changed the background layout.

I went through all of my paper stock and came across typed words 12 x 12. I like the effect of the ripped up paper so much so that I decided to do the same with the back ground. I used washi tape for the young lady's eyes, I wanted to add something different. I love the way it came out. Now I needed to decide where I was going to present my Haiku's.

I didn't want to overload the whole area as it looked very busy as it was, so I wanted to tuck the poetry away in a fun little spot. I used washi tape to line the edges as well as plain sticky tape to protect the marker used to write the poem and to also protect any washi from coming away. I thought I'd use a little velcro closure to keep the tuck spot lid closed. I like the way that it reveals a little poem inside. I used some aqua pastels to colour within the small areas of the triangles, just to give them a bit of something.

Another wide view in Black and white with tuck spots closed, just for something different. I decided to put two poems on there, I didn't want too many on the page at once as it just didn't feel right, I felt like they were all taking something away from each other, so two was enough.

All in all, I had a wonderful time creating in this journal and trying to put words together about subjects I love, I hope you like what I did Pam, it was a lot of fun.

Autumn Haiku

Sorry peeps, have been a bit slack this month with getting Pam's journal done.  I had to go back to work a few weeks ago, and attempt to get back into the swing of things - adjustments had to be made after 9 weeks off work, after my knee op!

Anyhoo, it's done!  Pam's journal is (as always 😊) beautifully made, with lovely paper.  I decided it would be fun to write my own haiku to add...  Don't think I've done one since early high school, so it was fun!

I'm loving making autumn leaves at the moment, using tea bags and watercolour - so an Autumn haiku was in order.  First I made all of my leaves.  I'm always so pleased that they look quite real!

Next I started on my background.  I wanted something soft and .... backgroundish... so I just used swirls of autumnal watercolours.  I then did a wash of undersea green over the top, to tone it down.  Lastly I stamped some leaves, again in watercolour, using a stamp I'd made.

Next, it was time to add my haiku to the page.  I ummed and ahhed about how best to add it, then decided on my trusty alphabet stamps.  But quickly realised they were going to be too big...

But that's okay; some words ended up being stamped, and the others written in with faux calligraphy.  Problem solved!

Finally it was time to place all of my leaves on the page, and glue them down with matte gel medium.  Luckily, like baby bear, the number of leaves I had made turned out just right! 🐻

So my haiku reads:

Hues of red and brown

Leaves shed like hot summer tears

Autumn rears its head.

The colours in the pic haven't come out quite right; I'm hoping you'll love it when you get it home Pam.  I'm really pleased with all the great texture from the different leaves, and really enjoyed putting this together for you!

Pam played in Louise's Gaia Art Journal.

As normal Louise has presented us with an awesomely beautiful art journal to contribute to. For some reason I have Autumn on my mind and so I chose that as the theme for my spread.  I had a good idea of what I wanted to do bit was not at all sure if I could pull it off.

Fist step was the background. With some autumnal colours and a brayer I spread a bit pf paint around.  Then I dug out some hand carved stamps and made a few images.

Then I proceded to gelli print, stencil, die cut and cut out my autumn leaves.  The difficult part was working out the placement. After I had everything stuck down I then wrote the Haiku I composed because it made me happy.

My entries in Pam's Haiku Journal

I basically did 3 pages as I had chosen 3 Haiku that I liked. I intended to get creative and put the 3 on a double page spread. I also intended to write them out by hand. I just couldn't get it to work so I resorted to Photoshop and printed them out with a suitable background for each. I still intended to do a double page. However, I printed 2 out and they were too big! Rather than waste the canvas that I printed them on I decided to see if I could do something.

I had already decided on the Japanese paper so I just had to do some re-cutting and what you see is what you get...lol. It does look better IRL!! I also added some washi tape the finish off. I did the 3rd one on the last page in Pam's journal.

Hope you like what I did Pam. If nothing else it feels nice!!

Haiku.

This has been a really difficult journey for me.  I have had such a battle to keep going and but for my daughter I would have withdrawn.  I couldn't come up with a theme I liked and then when I did I froze and couldn't start.  I even had a cyber art lesson.

I have managed to get started and I hope that now we are off and running I will be OK.  Art doesn't come easy to me and every month when a new journal arrives I go through sheer terror until I manage to get an idea.  You would think after all this time I would just wing it.

So here is my Art Journal for 2019.  It is approx A4 size made with good solid paper. I forgot to take pictures as I went.
