Mon's entry in Roz' journal

Roz' beautiful journal has the theme "Oriental". I dove right in without a clue of where the pages would lead. I first added two "doors" to give me more space to work on. The pages evolved with different layers and materials and stitching.

It is a kind of an Asian fusion page reminding me of Chinese wedding cabinets, Japanese kimonos, Chinese Cheong Sams and lanterns.

The doors open to reveal a lotus pond with free machine embroidered Koi made from vintage Japanese Kimono silk fabric.

I first collaged these pages with an old Chinese Feng Shui Horoscope calendar pages...

 before painting on top.

I really enjoyed working in Roz' journal.

Louise's pages in Oriental

I have not been very arty at all lately, things have been really full on at home and the sheer size of all that is going on has been overwhelming and all the while this little beauty has been quietly beckoning to me from my self. The picture above is the tittle page Roz made in he journal, the whole journal is a delight.

Initially I was playing around with an idea for something clean and simple and sophisticated, I wanted to use paper and pattern and I started this page and it just sat there for a while until I finally added the fan.

In the mean time I had an idea about an Asian sunset,
so I played with dylusion sprays for the background and a simple ink drawing, and then the ideas were really flowing so I did a third page.

Playing with suggested textures here , I was after the feeling of languishing in luxury, silks and velvets, precious metals and succulent fruit.

So I have added an extra page into your journal Roz and I hope you like them.

Oriental- Janene's page

Hello everyone!  This is my second attempt to do this...the first attempt I lost all that I had written, so I sent out an SOS to Louise who got me up and running on the blog :-)!

When I received Roz's beautiful Oriental themed journal, I was a bit stumped as to what to put on a page as I am soooo not an oriental type of person.  But luckily for me my eldest daughter is...she spent a month in Japan a couple of years ago and that is her 'happy' place.  We talked and what kept coming up in my mind was the cherry blossoms as they were in full bloom when she was visiting.  So you can guess what I did...yep..a cherry blossom tree!

The saying for Destiny is a Japanese proverb and it wasn't until I had finished the page that I realized that it was the same saying that Roz had printed in her little book in the front of the journal!! Great minds Roz lol. The saying was personal for me I felt my destiny so to speak was always with me, but I had put it aside because I thought that I couldn't have time to do it while married and raising a family.  Silly me as if I had followed my heart and kept doing art, I would have been a much happier and rounded person.  Art is definitely my therapy and I love showing and sharing with like minded people.

I am eagerly looking forward to receiving the next journal and here is the page that I did for Roz's journal.
Have a great week everyone and happy journaling!!

Cheers

Roz's Oriental Journal.

I have completed a page in Roz's beautiful Oriental Journal.  I only did one page because I thought if I did two the pages might run out before the journal completed it's circle.
I was really scary for me as I have never before worked in a journal belonging to another person.
I was inspired by an article in Somerset Studio's Art Journaling magazine about Artist Bebe Butler.  Her work looked oriental and I tried my hand at following her methods.

And the beautiful journal itself:
