I was thrilled when mum sent me her journal from round 4

 as I love theme and I wanted a good sticky beak 

at all the lovely pages done by everyone. 

We are very close and love to live near each other

 but I live in hot humid Grafton 

and they cant cope with the weather 

so they live hundreds of km away in the central west.

But mum loves Grafton and the jacarandas 

and the Jacaranda Festival 

so I wanted to do a page about Grafton and of course 

it had to be purple. 

Working in Teesha style to me means bright and busy

 with lots to look at,

 colourful borders, interesting words 

and unexpected quirky characters. 

So my jacaranda queens

 are not quite like any I have seen at festival time

 but they sure were fun to create. 

The next page I created was inspired by bugs- 

its summer time here and they are loving

 all the heat and rain we have had lately. 

Mum had 4 pages left and generously said I could play in all of them :) 

So I unearthed so much 'stuff'

you know all of that stuff we hoard for art?

This style of journalling is really good for using it all up. 

My girlfriend Kathy visited Paris a couple of years ago

 and shared some of the incredible exhibitions

 she saw with me through photos and bought back flyers and catalogs. 

So these pages are about Picasso and Paris as an armchair traveler.

As I was making my way through the piles of above mentioned stuff

 I came across some fashion mags. 

They have fabulous fonts and great imagery

 but I was a bit upset at the extravagance

 of it all and this page became a bit of a rant. 

I saw all of these shoes and shoes and shoes

 and knew I had a fabulous big die cut 

somewhere so they formed the basis of my last pages. 

However I was shocked at the ridiculousness of it all

the prices!

and where could you even wear them?

So many ways in my opinion that could better use those dollars. 

I should also say I own very few shoes 

and the most expensive are my well worn,

 paint splattered  redback work boots.

This is such a lovely colourful journal and all the pages are awesome and really go with the theme.
I chose to do one monotone page and one colourful. I have admired Teesha for many years as well and find her really inspiring.
I started by doing my borders and then filling the inside space. I have several Teesha stamps and also some collage sheets so i used these to complete my pages.
I hope you love them Pam as I certainly loved doing them.

When I read about Pam's journal theme, I had heard of Teesha Moore, but didn't really know much about her work.  So I checked out her blog and was blown away by her quirky and whimsical style!

But then I thought, how am I going to emulate this woman's art?  It's so not me!

My word for this year (if I had actually picked one...!) would be CHALLENGE.  So I thought what the hell, just give it a go!

I went through my meagre magazine collection looking for quirky things to cut out, and did find a few that I thought would suit.  I was also lucky enough to win a box of stuff from Kaiser earlier this year, so had a bit of a stash of die cuts.

As we were going away on holidays to Vietnam mid month, my aim was to finish my spread and send it to Lesley early.  So the sensible thing would have been to pick a page without a flap.  Did I?  No...!  So instead of doing two pages I had to do four.  Thus I had to finish it after we got back, so apologies to all!

So here are my pages.  I'm not confident at all that they look like Teesha's work, but they are quirky, weird, and colourful!

First page: duck with attitude.  Whatever you choose to do in life, OWN IT.

Second page - mermaids and scooters.  Take a bite of life!

Third page - Picasso head.  We all have many faces.

And fourth page - Foxy lady - hello beautiful!

Hope you like them Pam, I enjoyed getting out of my comfort zone!

Joan's page in Pam's "Teesha Moore style" journal

Pam's journal is a lovely almost square journal made from good quality watercolour paper.  It already has some great pages done by Pam and the other artists participating in Round 3 of the circle/travelling journal event.

Pam has chosen the theme of "Teesha Moore Inspired".  When I first got it last month and I was talking to Lisa Jones, I flippantly said to her, that it was my worse nightmare to have to do a layout in this style.  Don't get me wrong, I like Teesha's art journal pages, and have since she first started using Zettiology in her art. It is just that it is not my "goto at anytime" style.   I read the information that Pam included on Zettiology and oohed and aahed over the layouts already in the journal, but I was still not feeling it.  Now I know I could have gone to Pinterest or the web and downloaded some digital sheets to do the layouts but in my mind that is cheating and taking the easy way out and besides I did not want to be unduly influenced by the the examples.

I started by going through magazines and pulling out pages with colourful backgrounds to be cut into strips to make the borders around the two and half pages. Pam's journal has flaps on every other page and the next blank page had the flap. I cut up about five different pages with some repeating colours.
Then I flipped through the magazines to find some interesting faces, legs, arms,and clothes that could be used for putting together some weird creatures. I also remembered I had some great wrapping paper that I have shared with a few of you in the group early in the year that had lots of doodling and colour and some animals, so I got the sheet and cut out some bits and pieces from there.

I still had no idea of what I was going to do, but I put some gesso, followed by dylusions paints in  various colours down on the page.  It was a mistake putting different colours, I should have used only one colour on each page, but I did not realise this till after I had started to collage and by then it was too late to change it. I then stenciled using stencils from Mike Deakin and Tim Hotze and white and gold paint. Anyway now as forecasted the nightmare began.  I must have had about twenty bodies and heads and loose limbs on the table by now and (A) I still had no idea how to begin, and (B) I constantly kept losing the cutout I was looking for on my crowded untidy table and everytime I could not find a piece, I had to turn it upside down even further.  After two hours I had managed to stick a border using the pieces around two sides of all the pages.  Did I like it, was I happy with it?
No, but it was a start.  Five days and nights later, after changing my mind a few times, I actually ended up with most of the pages done.  Now came the second part of the nightmare, I hate my writing and I had to actually write on the pages.  For this I apologise to Pam in advance.  I should have just left the pages with no phrases it would have been better. Unfortunately once I wrote with a black posca pen, it was too late to change it.  I tried going over it a few times with alternating between white and black paint, but I just made it considerable worse, so again I am sorry for the terrible job Pam.  You can always paint over the top when you get it home.  Anyway I managed to invoke my inner Teesha Moore, but maybe it would have been better if she stayed hidden. LOL.
 

COLLEEN'S PAGES IN PAM PARKER'S JOURNAL

INSPIRED BY TEESHA.

It's such an honour to be the first to work in your beautiful journal Pam. 

Pam's pages are quite large & I used the first pages, which had a large flap as well. So I decided to use each page separately & do 4 individual pages.

I npainted all the pages, &, put borders, that I'd cut from magazines, around the edges. Then on Page 1 I used a cut-out of a motor bike. I cut the bikie's head off & put a deer head on, added an eye for the headlights. Added some texture paste circles & stencilling.

I added lots of doodling & some stamps along the borders. I wrote the words:- Born to be free, Born to be wild, Born to ride.

On page 2 I used a cut-out of a beautiful woman with a tall lacey hat, & then put a chicken in her hair.

I then replaced her face with another, added doodling & stamping & a bird on top of the hat. I printed & cut out the words, which say :- I think I have OCD (Obsessive Chicken Disorder) Little voices in my head keep telling me, go get more CHICKENS.

On page 3 I used a picture of Steve Irwin holding a very large lizard. I replaced the head of the lizard with a really "cool chick" wearing sun glasses & stamped some frogs & words

A bit more stamping & doodling & some striped hats & this was done.

On page 4 I used two cut-outs with superman shirts on & proceeded to doctor them. Changed their heads, legs, & the outfit on the larger one. Cut a skirt from a piece of colourful paper & added those gorgeous boots.

More  stamping & doodles & a pretty heart hanger on his arm & striped stockings on the girl.

The words say:- Deep in their hearts most wish to be understood and cherished.

 I enjoyed working on these pages so much, & I hope you like them Pam. And, yes, I had to put some chooks in. 😉

Inspired by Teesha Round 4

Here we go again.  Travelling Art Journal #4.

  This time around I have taken my inspiration fron the talented Teesha Moore.  Teesha loves bright colours, she loves quirky borders, lots of texture using dots, dashes, slashes, lines.  She is into collages and altering them.  She loves pointy hats and striped stockings.  Lots of illegible journaling and colourful quotes.

To begin I created my journal from Stonehenge paper and used a Teesha video for instructions. To decorate the cover I tried a technique I saw on line.  I painted coloured blocks all over, then after it dried I stencilled with black paint and then again with white, making a third layer.

I began my Title pages with my signed contract and the list of players in postal order.  Opposite I used a quirky image and added some information to help people along.

Nest I did my spread.  I chose another quirky image to collage over a bright background.  The background has various marks made on it as well as some stamping and stencils. I outlined the lady in gold pen and highlighted some of the gold in her costume.  Also used Inca gold with stencil to make a kind of halo.  The quote reads....Collect as precious, the words of the Wise and Virtuous which  I chose because my image is called The Night Collector.

This is the back page where I have added some little tags for people to sign and date when they receive the journal and maybe add a few words about their experience.
