Hello Everyone - Did You Hear??????

 

 

My final pages in this Round 6 of Journals in Colleen's Paper Napkin themed Journal!

Some really fab spreads in this completed journal!!

 

 

I started by tearing strips of napkins and adhering to the pages - I covered the entire pages and once the gel medium was dry I trimmed off all the overhanging bits.

 

 

I used a thin layer of gesso to tone down the napkins but it still allows the pattern and colour to show through.

 

 

I printed out my collage elements - of course they are from "Art Tea Life" my fav Etsy store yet again LOL!!

 

 

I added strips of washi tape randomly on the pages as well along with some strips of muslin cloth.

 

 

I wanted to add a bit of "humour" to these vintage gals - the way they are sitting and their expressions were just what I was looking for!

What a fab round of journaling - a great range of themes - hope everyone enjoys their completed journals when they all make their way home!

Annabelle works in Colleen’s journal

I always love working with napkins so I had fun playing in this journal so much so I forgot to take process pictures along the way. 

I have been trying hard not to do faces in everyone’s journal but I could not resist the urge this time. I hope you like her Colleen, I am so sorry that my photo of the finished page is so poor.

For July, I tackled Colleen's Paper Napkin Journal and selected an oriental theme, cheers Janie.

I chose a selection of oriental napkins to use

painted the double spread background black 

firstly, the thin top layer was pasted to white copy paper, as it was being stuck on a black background. Then the elements of the napkins were cut out for positioning on the page.

finally, to tie composition together I sprayed all over with a gold metallic spray

Exotic!! by Pam.

I spent some time pondering whatever I could contribute to Janie's Exotic Art Journal.  I had no idea and time was ticking so I just began and played around.  My thought turned to exotic dancers, to flashy birds, wonderful flowers, too many thoughts really.

So I just began a background.  I stuck down tissue paper, and then used some Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays in greens and browns.

Then I thought about leaves.  I had some painted papers that resulted from cleaning off my brayer when gelli printing so I stencilled over them with paint and cut out some leaves I searched through my paper napkins for exotics and found some lovely flowers and butterflies.  I then had a little tryout after I did some stamping with some home made stamps.

Janie's journal is an A4 landscape layout and I found it difficult to fit into my limited work space.  After pasting all my elements down.  I outlined them and then stencilled some dots in the red paint to tone in with the rest.

Here are some close ups from around the spread.  I hope it fulfills Janie's requirements. 

Klimpt Napkins.

Colleens very lovely handmade journal arrived this month and had me stumped. 

Paper napkins....

What to do. Most of the napkins I have had already made an appearance in Collens journal and collage is not at all my forte.

I found the Klimpt one and was inspired to create my own Klimpt-ish spread and one of my favourite paintings ever is his Tree of Life.

I added 'the kiss' napkin in place of one of the figures in the Tree of Life and played. Fancy me doing a tree.

Colleen's theme is Paper Napkin Art which is a really fun theme.  The journal is a lovely big A4 affair, and the way that Colleen has sewn around it makes you think it's actually cloth covered, not collaged!

I'm not a huge collector of napkins, but I did have the foresight to join the recent napkin swap, to bolster my collection!

So I started out just gathering my napkins together, looking at colours, and trying to pick out things that would/could go together.

Seems I must sub-consciously like butterflies, because I found heaps that included them!

Or is it just that they're a common theme for napkins?

Hmmmmm.......

Oh - not just butterflies - found a cute little birdy too.  This bird was from my favourite napkin.  And I think the only napkin that I used all of!

It included:

waves
a sail boat (which I cut up)
the wind
and French writing.

I love French writing!  It looks so elegant, and even the most mundane words or phrases are transformed into something magical when they're in French.

I lost count of the number of times that I glued a piece of napkin down... only to find that I had missed one of the layers.  And thus had succeeded in gluing down a bit of white stuff.  Aarrggghhh!  I did leave a few bits for a bit more texture.

I thought it was really apt that I found a napkin with the words

Jardin des Papillon on it -

Garden of Butterflies!




And here's the whole spread.  A big mess of lots of different napkins and layers all collaged together, and highlighted with white and black gel pens.

I enjoyed doing this Colleen, hope you like it too!

Robyn's Paper Napkin Art

This is my page I did in Colleens Paper Napkin Art Journal.

 Everything is done with napkins.

 I coloured the back of a napkin for the background then cut out all the other elements from 3 different napkins was not as easy as I thought it was going to be but was a great learning experience hope you like it Colleen xx

Paper Napkins with Pam.

It was a great pleasure to receive Colleen's lovely art journal and my first for Round 6.  Colleen's theme is Paper Napkins and she has used them brilliantly.

I began with a painted acrylic background and then did some reverse stencil work. I then added some stamping and did some toilet rolls daisies as well. Of course I have no photos of this stage. I then attached my napkins to cartridge paper and fussy cut them.

This was trying out my layout.

I proceeded to stick my pieces down and chose to embellish the with gelatos along the edges of the roses and also the butterflies and dragon flies.

Here is my finished spread.  I do hope Colleen likes it.

Added a subtle border.
