Time for Tea with Jenny

Life is like a cup of tea... to be filled to the brim and enjoyed with friends.

Time for Tea conjures up all kinds of ideas... but eventually I nailed one down and started making Sharon a pot of daisy tea. The Tim Holtz Paper Dolls dropped by to help :)

I've made it with quite a few layers, not always happy with each one but it eventually turned out ok. Bright, colourful, full of sweet elements.

First thing I did was take the pages out of the ring binder and glue down some pretty doilies with a gel matte medium.

I then dragged the pages through puddles of Distress Oxide Ink (Squeezed Lemonade and Iced Spruce) on a craft mat but it seemed to stick to the paper rather than spread out. Nice colours but not quite the marbled background I envisioned.
Moving on, I sprayed both Distress Ink Stain (Twisted Citron, a gorgeous lime green) and Distress Oxide Sprays (Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio) to the pages and it seemed to liven it up! I finished off the background with Distress Oxide Spray in Fossilized Amber (earthy yellow).

Once the inky background was dry, I gathered a couple of my fave Tim Holtz stencils (ZigZag and Blossom) and added their patterns using Dylusions acrylic paint (Mushy Peas and Calypso Teal) and an ink blending tool (foam applicator).

The next layer was made with the Finnabair Paper Texture Paste (it dries like homemade paper) and Tim Holtz stencil (Lace), spread with a plastic spatula.

An overview of the page so far...

While deciding what to do next, I stamped out a Darkroom Door teapot (set called Time for Tea), cups, spoon and teabags with black Ranger Archival Ink on white mixed media paper. I was toying with the idea of a colourful teaset... but I think the simple black and white is best.

Now the plaster was dry, I added Ranger's Gloss Transparent Texture Paste through the Tim Holtz stencil, Flourish, letting each section dry before adding more beautiful swirls.

This photo (above) is of the texture paste drying, with spots of Nuvo Drops scattered around.

The teapot was made 3D with the help of an Action Wobble... being adhesive backed help hold the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology paper flowers and little teabag strings in place too.

I coloured the flower centres in yellow ink and drew daisies onto the teabags. I was going to use real teatags but they were too big.

The rest of the elements are butterflies, daisies and roses from a pack of Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Botanical Layers, washi tape (more butterflies!), and a pair of Tim's Idea-Ology Paper Dolls.
The silver spoon is stamped using silver watercolour paint, then coloured some more with the same paint to darken the silver paint.

The final touches are a sticky note stamped with the quote, more butterflies, dribble of honey, glitter (sugar) on the spoon and another paper lace doily along the bottom.

Its turned out to be a pretty floral Spring-like page in the end. Thanks for reading :) Hope it makes you smile!

Sharon's Tea Time journal

This is a lovely little journal and a fun topic. However as I'm at the tail end of it's journey, all the usual topics such as High tea, Mad hatters tea party, Japanese tea ceremony have been done. I didn't really know what to do. 

Sharon very kindly supplied some tea bags to go with the journal. So I challenged myself to see how much art I could do while drinking a cup of tea. 

Using some left over torn pages from another project and a cup of Lemon and Ginger tea, I laid down the background. 

Next day with one pair of scissors, the remains of an old childrens book, ( unfortunately it had lost it's cover so I can't attribute the work), glue and a cup of Camomile, Honey and Vanilla, the main character came together. 

Third day, one more cup of tea, Earl Grey and it was all done. 

So no more "I haven't got time to create " all you need is the time it takes to drink a cuppa tea.

AASJ7: Sharon's Pages in Robyn's "World of Fashion" Journal

Hi Everyone

 

 

Sharing my pages in Robyn's "World of Fashion" Journal.

 

I was going to do something more "traditional" and probably what would be more "expected" but LOL it's ME and I don't do normal and standard LOL!

 

 

Sooooo I've gone with Victorian "Science Fiction" AKA "Steampunk" fashion and I've done a spread which is pretty much the same as I did for the August 2017 "Dot to Dot" challenge we had at the group! I added wording for a more "fashionable" quote!

 

I started by black Gessoing the pages in Robyn's Journal - black is a fab background to work with for a change! When the gesso was dry I adhered a strip of torn encyclopaedia page to one side and trimmed once dry.

 

 

I added a thin layer of white paint, black coloured texture paste through a stencil and a text rubber stamp by Blank Page Muse to the background. I added some bits of washit tape and edged the pages with a blank ink pad.

 

 

Main image is a collage element from Gecko Galz and the wording was computer generated.

Time for High Tea!

When I heard Sharon's theme - Time for a Cuppa - of course I thought of using teabags in my page as I am wont to do.  However, when I received the journal and looked through it, and thought about it - shock horror - I didn't use teabags at all!

I came up with a different slant on things.  And of course took bugger all process pics - sorry peeps!

So firstly I collaged both of my pages with different vintage-style papers.  Sharon's journal is a two ring journal, making it easy to remove pages to work on.

Next I drew my page elements on good old cartridge paper.  I like this paper because it's a touch thicker than photocopying paper, and it's easy to cut out.

Then I coloured all of my bits using Derwent Inktense pencils - I love how soft and easy they are to use compared to the Derwent Studio pencils.  My daughter and I argue about these pencils constantly; she prefers the Studios and says 'Blend, mum!  Blend!'  It probably depends on the paper you're using, but I'll still pick Inktense any day!


Next I stuck everything down using matte gel medium, and added a sparkly chandelier.  And looked at it, and thought, it just needs something else.  So I added lots of words to do with High Tea.  

I love a good high tea; I think it's one of those things that you don't do very often, so it's always special!  If you've never had one, I highly recommend it.  Especially if they serve champagne! 😍

AASJ7: Sharon's Pages in Pam's "Haiku" Journal

Hi Everyone!

 

Here are my pages in Pam's "Haiku" Journal!

 

 

I have to say I was a little apprehensive about this "theme" as I really wasn't sure about writing a Haiku but I had some brand new stamps from a US Design Team I am on and the idea popped into my head and the "Haiku" verse just popped into my head to match the stamped/collage images I wanted to create LOL!

 

 

I used paper doll collage elements by Art Tea Life - you know by now this is my fav store - I always feel inspired and creative when I'm working with these elements along with the fab new rubber stamps by Blank Page Muse "Vintage Scents Perfume" set.

 

I started adding a layer of gesso to the page backgrounds and then added strips of scrap papers, tissue papers, book pages etc.

 

 

I added yellow, pink & white paint to the pages with a sponge.

 

 

I stamped one of the perfume bottles from the set over the lower half of the pages - then I added white gesso through a stencil to add some interest to the top and bottom of the pages.

 

 

I used little alphabet stamps to "write" the Haiku verse and added the wording and collage gals plus muslin cloth and diamantes to finish the page!

AASJ7: Sharon's Pages in Roz's "Art Deco" Journal

Hi Everyone

 

 

Sharing my pages in Roz's Art Deco themed journal!

I love how Roz has used an old art Deco themed hard cover diary for her journal base - a clever idea and I loved that I would apply thin layers of paint/stencilling and still have the deco themed pages showing through!

 

 

I started with a thin layer of gesso so I had a base - love that you can still see the page lines and pics through the gesso!

 

 

Next I used some soft pastel coloured chalk paints through an Art Deco style stencil.

 

 

I then added the Deco style collage elements from Art Tea Life which I printed and fussy cut!

 

 

Hope Roz likes the finished pages!

Time for Tea with Robyn

This is my entry into Sharon Rogers Time for tea Journal

 I digitally placed the photos onto a background 

then added some digital decorations table and teapot

 and some other programs I had hope you like it Sharon xx

Time for a Cuppa with Pam and Sharon.

Because of changed address circumstances, we have had to tweak the sending order of the art journals a little, while Louise is at my home. As a result I have done my work in Sharon's lovely art journal and then I will slip it back to Robyn to do as her June entry.

I began by collaging the pages with tea bags and then I did some stamping in cocoa brown. Then I added my focal points, a bit of outlining and called it done.

Enjoy the little things every day.  Chin, chin!!

A nice cup of tea

I bought Sharon's cute and quirky journal down to mama's and on a sunny afternoon we played out on her back deck in our travelling journals. Arting with a friend or loved one is even better than having a cuppa with one, but not by much.

As usual, I jumped in with no pre-planned idea and just went with it. I created a background of book pages, paper doilies, used tea bags and recycled tissue paper- if you have a keen eye you will see the same tissue paper on both my page and mama's page. 

I then played with a brayer and some paint- white and ochre, once it dried I added journalling and the book paper circles I found in my stash and then sketched in a teapot and cup and saucer. Finished off with some doodling and more words-

Enjoy a cuppa with a friend and be uplifted. 

AAJS7 Sharon's Pages in Lisa's "Book Page Art" Journal

Hi Everyone!

 

I'm sharing my pages in Lisa's Journal - I just loved this theme of "Book Page Art" - I always use old book pages in my journal and other creations to add interest to the background!

 

 

I couldn't resist and "Alice in Wonderland" theme for my pages as I had recently bought an old "Alice" paperback novel for 50cents from a second hand book stand!!!!

 

I used pages from the book to cover the entire background - I trimmed the edges once it was all dry.

 

 

Next I used a wording type stencil and texture paste to the background and allowed to dry. Then I added ink sprays to each side and let dry.

 

I used more pages from the book to print the digi images on - before printing I used a spatula to add a thin layer of gesso to the pages so the wording was still visable but dulled off enough for the dig image to be most prominent. I coloured the digis with copic markers. I printed the Alice quotes on plain white card and cut out.

 

I adhered everything to the pages including some added washi tape. I just love the result - who doesn't love "Alice"???
